Abstract

This article substantiates a methodological approach to assess agricultural production's economic adaptation to the European Green Deal requirements. It integrates environmental objectives with the need for economic efficiency, resource productivity, investment capacity, and competitiveness. The primary objective is to develop a toolkit for comprehensively evaluating this adaptation using a structured indicator system and an integral index. Methodology. The framework employs systemic and index approaches, alongside generalization, comparative grouping, and economic analyses. Evaluation indicators span five components: economic performance, investment and financial capacity, resource and economic efficiency, technological and innovative adaptation, and market adaptation. Indicators are classified as stimulators or destimulators based on their impact. For comparability, individual indices are derived relative to baseline values and aggregated using equal weighting coefficients. Ultimately, a sequential algorithm calculates individual, component, and integral indices. Results and Novelty. The scientific novelty lies in systematizing the components and indicators of agricultural adaptation to the European Green Deal and creating a comprehensive evaluation methodology via an integral index. A proposed five-level scale interprets empirical results, ranging from very low to very high adaptation, calibrated by the index's deviation from a 1.0 baseline. Practical Implications. This approach helps monitor adaptation dynamics, assess components comparatively, identify structural bottlenecks, and support managerial decisions to build a resource-efficient, competitive agricultural model aligned with European standards. Future research should empirically test this methodology at enterprise and regional levels and refine weighting coefficient differentiation.
