Abstract

The article presents a systemic approach to analyzing and measuring the level of social solidarity – a qualitative characteristic of human capital and a key driving force of sustainable development – by applying existing evaluation methods and introducing new analytical tools. It proposes examining solidarity processes across three distinct levels: national, international, and global. At each level, solidarity manifests in various dimensions: through interpersonal interaction, within the activities of individual communities and civil society, in relations between citizens and the state, and between sovereign states and international alliances. Current manifestations across these levels and dimensions are outlined. Utilizing established measurement approaches, the study evaluates the dynamics and prevalence of charitable and volunteer activities in Ukraine during 2021–2025 across multiple methodological frameworks: official data from the State Register of Volunteers, indirect financial metrics of charitable engagement, and empirical findings from sociological surveys. Furthermore, the paper introduces a newly calculated social solidarity index based on the structural dynamics of non-profit civil society organizations relative to the total population of active business entities. Quantitative indicators assessing specific aspects of international solidarity are also examined. In addition, the paper analyzes desolidarization factors that act as structural barriers to population cohesion. The practical significance of the study lies in systematizing existing approaches and expanding the methodological toolkit for the quantitative assessment of social solidarity.
