Abstract

The article deals with the main means of studying and infl uencing the process of professional training of future masters of foreign philology to the formation of professional foreign language communication competence, including lexical competence, to students of foreign philology departments. Future masters were oriented to use comparative study of the content and forms of English and Ukrainian words, the study of word-formation, word-combining, phraseological units and the fi gurative meaning of words, as well as polysemy, synonymy, homonymy, antonymy, in comparative study with students. The criteria for choosing a vocabulary are defi ned. Methodical advice on improving the efficiency of work on lexical material is presented, the lexical competence of the teacher of foreign philology of the pedagogical university is given. The positive effect of the experiment on the ability of future masters to form the English lexical competence of students is established.
