IMPLEMENTATION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD: SOCIO-HISTORICAL AND PRAGMATIC ASPECTS
Nowadays almost all countries of the world are aware of the importance of English language proficiency in the context of globalization, development of science and technology, business and social development. But not all countries can do this with the same success. The article provides an analysis of socio-historical conditions and factors that have contributed to the dissemination and implementation of English as the main language of international communication in different countries of the world. The basis of the analysis is the ranking of countries created following the results of international exams on English as a foreign language. The article describes the features and factors that characterize the process of implementation of the English language in Ukrainian society and its perspectives. Ukraine occupies a middle position in the rating among the population speaking English as a foreign language. The government of a country tries to reform the system and methods of teaching the language in schools and institutions, as well as individual citizens realize the importance and vital need for the moment to know the language of global communication. So, the resources of the state and the motivation of citizens are the important factors to improve the overall situation with the knowledge of English by the population. Ukraine’s orientation towards European integration is also taken into account, which is another important factor in this process.
