ARCHAIC UNITS OF THE UNIVERSE IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF AZERBAIJAN

Abstract

The article highlights some archetypal aspects in the process of formation of the architecture of Azerbaijan, and issues of the cultural continuity. Reflections of ancient traditions are clearly traced in the decoration of architectural structures, reliefs and sculptures included in the ensemble of medieval architectural monuments. Though the re-encoding of meanings takes place still, there is a semantic continuity along with it, related to the deep impact of powerful cultural layer of the previous eras on newly created architectural objects.
