Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of spatial dimension as a mean of creating a female character in the short stories collection Prostitutes Also Get Married by Ye. Kononenko. Most of the heroines have been united by Kyiv under difficult social conditions of the late 20th century. Realities force women to seek prosperity and personal wellbeing outside Ukraine, but they do not find happiness there. It is determined that the collection outlines the oppositions here/there, Ukraine/Europe. Kononenko’s female characters are frequently being depicted through
these oppositions.
