Abstract

The article deals with the reasons and specificity of pragmatically motivated paraphrasing illustrated by the examples of the English literature Ukrainian translation. The article proves that rendering of the pragmatic meaning of the original text utterances, by means of which a speaker (a character or the author of the work of fiction) achieves a desirable communicative effect, presents peculiar difficulties for a translator.
