Abstract

In this paper, the author analyzes a cross-cultural communication, in which three subjects participate, which namely are: Renaissance humanists as epitaph authors, a German Jesuit father Jacob Pontan, whose treatise brought the Italian texts into Ukraine, and the authors of the Ukrainian poetics of the XVII-XVIII century. Eight epitaphs serving as an example show that the cultural expansion of the Renaissance epitaph as the texts of a donor group was different in a degree of intensity. There are two types of the reaction of the Ukrainian poetics, as a recipient group, to the situation of cultural contacts: the adoption of epitaphs and the adoption of the Pontan comment.
