Abstract

The paper “The Strategy of Involving the Reader in Cooperation with the Author in Modern English Programming Discourse” by O. Yu. Vynnyk, N. V. Rubel focuses on the study of linguistic means of infl uencing the reader’s psychological and emotional sphere in the texts of modern English programming discourse viewed as one of the types of professional discourse. On the basis of the results of the given research, it can be concluded that the strategy under review is implemented through a number of tactics, namely the tactics of personalizing the author’s narration, the tactics of inserting “other people’s speech” and the tactics of imitating natural dialogue. The research has revealed various structures of dialogization and other rhetorical devices which transform the author’s narration into a friendly chat with their reader thereby facilitating confi dence between the participants of communication. The sample was selected from programming textbooks published in2004 – 2011. Some proposals about further research are also made.
