METAPHORIC CONCEPTUALIZATION IN MODERN AMERICAN JOURNALISTIC TEXTS

Abstract

The article deals with the mechanism of conceptualization of reality by metaphoric means in modern American journalistic texts. The author of the article has identified and described a group of conceptual metaphors according to the model public and political life is a human being. Functions of cognitive metaphors in journalistic texts are highlighted and reviewed. Formation peculiarities of the process of metaphorization are described. Characteristics of assessment of metaphoric transference are studied and observed. Metaphors due to certain amount of functions performed in journalistic texts serve as universal means of transference of complex notions such as politics. They are helpful and useful in perception and conveying ambiguous notions related to political life of the USA. Modern social and political life of the USA represented by metaphors in terms of a human being is depictured. Social and political context of communication that characterizes participants of the communicative situation, a process of its producing and perception of journalistic text with extralinguistic factors, is highlighted.
