Abstract

The article deals with the features of the study of vocabulary on the lessons of Ukrainian as a foreign language based on the novel of Yuriy Andrukhovych “Lexicon of Intimate Cities”. A text of fi ction is often used as a basis for studying certain vocabulary in a foreign language audience. This method of teaching is effective and interesting for students, yet requires proper design. Difficulties of a fiction text are as follows: many unfamiliar words for foreigners, manner and style of the writer, the main idea of the text, and so on. All this requires additional explanations and various exercises. A fiction text is especially important in the process of reading, which serves as a means of teaching a language. To such texts, a system of exercises is developed that helps foreigners to perceive and memorize material, enrich the vocabulary and form grammatical skills. This article presents a system of exercises that are used when working with literary text in a foreign language audience: text, post-text and post-text. Also presented is a system of exercises, developed on the basis of a passage from the work of “Lexicon of Intimate Cities”. The complex of tasks has been processed as a material for studying the spoken vocabulary in a foreignspeaking audience, who are studying the Ukrainian language at the main and the final stage.
