Abstract

This article deals with the theoretical aspects of bilingual teaching of foreign students. Defi nition of the concept of ‘bilingualism’ and its varieties are made. Approaches to professionally-oriented foreign language teaching in non-linguistic institutions of higher education are proposed. Bilingual aspect of professionally-oriented foreign language teaching is reviewed, in teaching foreign students in a foreign language environment in a language that is not native to them too, leading to the search for education techniques that would allow foreign students to achieve high levels of professional competence. Linguistic and methodic foundations of bilingual teaching include methodic essentials of teaching (aims, tasks, regularities, content, methods, resources and etc.) in their inseparable connection with language and communication nature as social phenomena. We have examined the structure of the bilingual professional competence of foreign students and indicated the general characteristics of each component. It is proved that professional competence bilingualism consists of particular competencies, includes knowledge, relations, behavior, linguistic / cultural variants and discursive strategies. The conducted theoretical study gives evidence to conclude that the formation of professional competence of foreign students will be realized at a higher level with a bilingual approach to education if the didactic conditions in which the educational process takes place are taken into consideration and implemented.
