Abstract

The modern literary epoch of postmodern brought the concept of mass culture along. One of the displays of such culture is a thriller. The article considered literature activity of popular German writer in “psychological thriller” – Sebastian Fitzek. The lawyer by education and redactor in radio by main activity he is considered to be one of the most prominent Germanspeaking contemporary writers and his novels are always on the top among bestsellers of the Spiegel. On the basis of the writer’s novellas such as «Therapy» (2006), „The Child“ (2008), „Passenger 23“ (2014) were analyzed story lines’ features, images of protagonists and the range of main themes. Attempts are made to detect basic distinction features of the individual writer’s style: the personality that usually clears up case is opened through his strong personal tragedy. Personal pain gives a powerful incentive for investigation. Finally, at the time of disclosing the main intrigue the internal confl ict is solving. Fitzek’s criminals fi rst of all are avengers that try to fi nd the truth, to confront the evil by their inhuman but effi cient methods. At the end of the novel the author adds one more story that surrounds basic plot and becomes leading squad in the succession of crimes. Child presence is the obligatory element in novellas by Fitzek. Children are indicators of the human cruelty the same way as the love. Children protection is one more writer’s trick that justifi es any contraventions.
