The article deals with the problem of normative forms’ codifi cation of proper names in the Ukrainian language (some inconsistencies are fi xed among anthroponyms, toponyms, ergonyms, ideonyms, etc.). Very often false spellings of proper names are caused by foreign-language infl uence, fi rst of all Russian language. Many other violations of Ukrainian language legislation have also been witnessed.
It is proposed to use common forms of proper names for our language; to follow the rules of their spelling and using cases; to do everything possible to reduce the number of foreign nominations – both Russian and English; complete the process of decommunization and de-Sovietization both in the language as a whole and in the onomasticon, since it is impossible to leave on the Ukraine’s map the names that point to the oppressors of the Ukrainian people or events that have had a very negative impact to our life.
The main rule for creating new nominations should be Ukrainian-language design and avoiding of those motivational moments that aren’t perceived by a large part of the Ukrainian people (in our opinion the proprietary units that indicate the location of the object, its characteristic features or attributes, which have a common symbolic meaning in the minds of the Ukrainian people are the best.
The norms that concerns the cases and coordination of the proper and common names, the functioning of borrowed onyms and other similar moments associated with the determination of those forms of proper units that are in conformity with the norms of Ukrainian literary language need further perfection.
