WAYS OF FORMING PROFESSIONAL LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE OF PHILOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT STUDENTS STUDYING THE COURSE INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS

The article analyzes the concept of professional linguistic competence as the primary basis for the development and formation of other types of competences. Professional linguistic competence is defined as a variety of language communicative competence, serving as a complex and multidimensional conglomerate of knowledge, abilities and skills that form the linguistic outlook of the philologist. The paper describes structural components of linguistic competence: knowledge of the categorical apparatus of linguistics (fundamental terms and definitions, basic dichotomies, main conceptual oppositions), methodological framework (linguistic methods and principles of analysis), key linguistic concepts (theories and hypotheses of language origin, laws of language development, principles of classification of languages of the world, structural organization of language in terms of language levels, units and relations, language as a semiotic system); skills and abilities of practical analysis of linguistic and speech phenomena on the material of native and foreign languages; the ability to comprehend and apply the acquired knowledge and skills in the professional sphere. Examples of exercises for the formation of professional linguistic competence, in particular its terminological component, are provided. The aim of these exercises is to study main concepts and categories, avoid terminological uncertainty, establish generic relationships between different nominations, increase the cognitive activity of students, etc.
