Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the current trends in the creation of new words in English.
The article presents the analysis of the latest new words in modern English language. The purpose of the article is to define the specificity of the emergence and functioning of popular English neologisms. The objects of the research are new words which have appeared in the language during the recent year. A brief review of theoretical approaches to the problem of studying neologisms has been given.
The distribution of neologisms according to thematic groups has been carried out. Ten following thematic groups have been distinguished: “Human being in the modern world”, “Ecology”, “Medicine”, “Gastronomy”, “Politics”, “Technology”, “Finance, trade”, “Work”, “Law”, “Recreation, sport”. Four semantic microgroups (“Character, habits, behavior, relationships”, “human being in the world of modern technology”, “appearance”, “emotion, feeling, state”) have been studied within the thematic group “Human being in the modern world”. Examples of the most interesting new words and expressions have been given; the most widespread spheres of their functioning have been specified; the ability of lexical innovations to reflect modern tendencies that occur in society has been studied. The use of neologisms for reaching the communicative aims has been defined.
