Abstract

The article is devoted to the secondary functions of questions, in particular expressive function. The quexpressives are defined and their relationship with other communicative and pragmatic types is shown. The correlation of utterances with the interests of the addresser and the addressee has been taken into account. The differential effect of different types of quexpressives on the psychological and emotional state of the recipient is studied. The communicative and pragmatic subtypes of expressive questions and their structural characteristics are established. The communicative and pragmatic classification of types of quexpressives is made and their role in communication and intimate communication (IC) in particular is determined. The role of quexpressives in the implementation of speech genres of IC is shown. The effectiveness of expressive questions in the implementation of communicative tactics in intimate communication is emphasized.
It has been established that secondary function questions that realize expressive speech acts relay a range of positive and negative emotions, as well as mental states of the addressee, varying in intensity. By its syntactic structure, the quexpressives are: special questions with intensifiers and modifiers, general questions with evaluators, elliptic models, and tag questions. 29% of quexpressives analyzed are intrinsic to intimate communication. They serve to perform speech genres “talk in ralational terms”, “intimate talk”, “confidences”, “flirtation” and “confessional talk”.
