Abstract

This article enlightens theoretical foundations concerning legal translation studies, as well as theoretical and practical components of the new approaches to translation of jurisprudence. Teaching of highly specific legal terminology is one of the most complex tasks in the process of interpreting legal language and translation studies. The article examines implications between language and l relations between languages and law arising from their interconnection, as well as the extent to which they affect the process of legal language instruction and acquisition.Although the definition of terminology as a discipline is related to a specific vocabulary, it is not something new in this field of research, what’s more, it has become a fully-fledged scientific concept with its own principles, foundations and methodology relatively recently. Terminology as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary field of knowledge is characterized by many approaches to its theoretical basis and practical application. No matter how diverse these terminological theories and approaches can be, there are certain generally accepted theoretical and methodological aspects such as: the concept, nature of a term and its functions in texts; non-verbal forms of presentation, organization and modeling of knowledge, terminology and cognition, lexical pragmatics and corpus terminology. In addition, the article provides examples of specific issues related to legal and administrative terminology, which underline unique problems encountered by lunguists and terminologists when they have to one a legal system lacking specialised terminology to be expressed in two languages.
