Theoretical analysis of various approaches related to professionally oriented learning of English is carried out. Particular features of providing practical learning activities for students of non-linguistic specialities are highlighted. The research attention is focused on the principles, criteria, and approaches dedicated to the problem of professionally oriented English language learning. The emphasis is placed on the key role of motivation. Various educational and professional programs are analyzed in terms of acquired competencies and learning outcomes related to English language learning. Different learning styles and learning technologies are considered. According to the description of educational and professional programs, the key vectors of modern learning are student-centered, problem-oriented, and self-study. For non-linguistic specialities, the focus lies on working with professional, authentic texts that provide vital material for organizing educational communication. Different types of educational texts were considered.
