Abstract

The article deals with considering and analyzing the cooperative strategies of consolidation and self-presentation that make a powerful influence on the public from the political arena. In the world of constant changes and challenges, full of constant stream of information, political discourse becomes a strategic tool for modern reality interpretation and public opinion formation. Strategic and tactical orientation of the discourse under study is highlighted through the prism of speakers’ acquired skills and abilities for synthesizing and interpreting the received information taking into account linguistic peculiarities.
Publicly expressed views and ideas, announced urgent reports on important actions and decisions provide necessary data for understanding the political situation and, in particular, influencing nation’s consciousness as well as taking control over public opinion. The methodological approach applied in this study is a mixed one based on the discourse analysis, the comparative analysis and the descriptive method, that enhanced the differentiation of the main tools for establishing political communication in a beneficial for a speaker way. The comparative analysis of cooperative strategies of consolidation and self-presentation as well as their subordinate tactics in the political discourse on the material of the speeches proclaimed by the President of the United States Joe Biden and the Prime Minister of Great Britain Rishi Sunak proved their effectiveness due to lingual means accurate use. It has been revealed that the choice of cooperative strategies of consolidation and self-presentation in the political discourse is determined by taking into account such parameters as the context, the communication register and the target audience characteristics. All these predetermine definite lexico-semantic, stylistic, and syntactic means in the English political discourse.
