Abstract

All four books of Horace's Odes are studied. The attention is focused on the poetic context, which contains all kinds of naturalistic imagery. The structure and models of naturalistic images are described.
The stylistic features of the poetics of naturalistic images in poetry, namely in Horace's Odes, are considered and described. The cases of their use in the text are analysed. It is established that in order to achieve a perfect phonopoetic idiom, Horace actively works with rhythmic melody and specific tropes (alliteration, assonance, in particular, to create basic archetypal images), and to achieve the full perfection of his poetic idiom, the author often uses other literary tropes: metaphor, epithet, parallelisms, polysyndeton, allegory, and others. It has been determined that the imagery of Horace's poetics is built on the ability to skilfully combine and integrate into complex poetic dimensions the appropriate vocabulary that would not only describe the relevant information, but also form archetypal fundamental images with the help of phonetic and semantic tropes. It has also been established that the author professionally calculated the correlation between sound and meaning in a context limited by the size of the poem, and as a result demonstrated how the combination of formal and substantive (meaning) literally depends on its sound organisation. This fact indicates the semantisation of sound, which affects the decoding of the deeper meaning of the work.
The fact of Horace's high artistic poetic idiom is proved.
