COLLABORATIVE WRITING: THEORETICAL ASPECT

The article is devoted to theoretical issues related to collaborative learning as well as approaches applied in classrooms in order to develop and master students' language competences. Many lecturers claim that cooperative types of work are essential components of learning process at universities. Since writing is considered to be a fundamental mode of communication, special attention was paid to collaborative or cooperative writing which is an important activity for students at the tertiary level, as it involves various aspects of grammar, proper choice of vocabulary, as well as ability to generate and organise ideas logically and coherently. Therefore, for students and graduates it is crucial to enhance their writing skills. However, university students often face both objective and subjective challenges when learning to write effectively. On the other hand, teachers have to opt what strategy to choose to make their classes more efficient. From the point of majority of teachers typical problems students face while dealing with academic writing can be solved by means of generating ideas for reports,essays and texts in groups. Such collaborative writing activities enhance learners’ writing skills, encourage them, to be cooperative so as to exchange knowledge and achieve definite academic successes.
