EDUCATIONAL AUTONOMY OF STUDENTS AS A PRECONDITION FOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GROUP PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The influence of a project activity on the development and selfdevelopment of students’ general and specific competences is widely recognized in psycho-pedagogical literature. Strategies and methods which are used in group project activity are among the most appropriate for students’ learning autonomy formation and for acquirement of means of self-regulated learning. Empirical research results of preconditions of implementing students’ group project activity in a foreign language learning process are presented in this article. In particular, frequency of students’ usage of different types of autonomic practice during foreign language learning and English language teachers’ perception of students’ learning autonomy have been examined.
