The article deals with theoretical approaches to the defi nition of the content of metacognitive monitoring in the learning process; the essence of the concept of “meta-knowledge” is specifi ed; the main components of self-regulated learning, which substantially infl uence the formation of personal key competencies of senior students necessary for their self-realization are defi ned; the structural components of metacognitive processes are characterized: knowledge of metacognition, monitoring of metacognitive processes and their control; іt is noted that metacognitive monitoring helps the effective education of the personality of senior students.
