Abstract

This article presents an attempt to identify the sources of words in synonymic rows in the English language, the usage of borrowed synonyms in Modern English (based on the British National Corpus (BNC), to characterize the types of synonymic relations and to classify the synonyms by their origin, structure and morphological features.
