Abstract

The problem of a woman conformism / nonconformism on the basis of the comparative analysis of the novel “Wives and daughters” by E. Gaskell and the narration “Tsarivna” by o. Kobylyanska is investigated in the article. Gender roles, canonized by Ukrainian and British societies of the ХІХ century are analyzed.
