Abstract

The article is dedicated to the investigation of gender issues in Sylvia Plath’s confessional poetry and in the poems of Elizabeth Bishop. We have explored the interlinked themes that constitute Sylvia Plath’s and Elizabeth Bishop’s poetry, focusing on the representation and the significance of gender issues. We have noticed that S. Plath uses predominantly autobiographical details, personal feelings and emotions to present the issues of gender inequalities, while Elizabeth Bishop is more distant in her poetry, refusing to be defined only by the notion of gender.
