GENRE SPECIFICATION OF "PHYSIOLOGICAL SKETCH" IN UKRAINIAN AND ENGLISH LITERATURE FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract

The comparative-typological analysis of the “physiological sketches” by G. Kvitka-osnovianenko, Ye. Hrebinka and Ch. Dickens reveals common features in artistic thinking of the writers, who are almost parallel to initiate the new genre in their national literatures, issues which had been primarily a social typology. Also, comparative analysis outlines the differences that were due to specific national and historical conditions, as well as “mental climate” in the Russian and British empires of the first half of the XIX cent.
