Abstract

The article considers the peculiarities of the representation of the concept ΦΙΛΙΑ (FRIENDSHIP) on the material of phraseological units of the Modern Greek language. Рhraseology has always been a rich source of research, because it is in direct connection with the national mentality, contains information about folk traditions and beliefs. Phraseological units refl ect the attitude of people towards one or another phenomenon, give a moral appraisal of human qualities. The analysis of phraseological units reveals the peculiarities of perception of the world, conception, judgment and values of a particular ethnic group. The defi nition of the term «concept» as the basic unit of cognitive linguistics is given. The concept, which is a product of thinking, may or may not have language expression. Lexical units, phrases, sentences and phraseological units are linguistic means of concept expression. They are called verbalizers or speech representatives of the concept. The verbalizers of the concept ΦΙΛΙΑ in phraseological units and proverbs, as one of the types of phraseological units of the Modern Greek language are singled out in the article. According to the semantic criterion, there are several groups of phraseological units that clearly show the assessment of interpersonal relations by the ethnic group and provide an opportunity to identify additional conceptual features of
this concept.
