Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the author’s interpretation of socially important phenomena for the German-Swiss writer Hermann Hesse, in particular, the evolution of characters in the conditions of an axiological crisis in the intellectual prose of the master of the word. The article focuses on the problem of riot that occurs in the main character’s souls in novels «Steppe Wolf», «Game of Beads» and «Siddhartha». The reasons for the antinomic thinking of the characters, the features of the rebellion and its consequences are highlighted. Three types of solving the confl ict between society and the individual are distinguished: destruction (Harry Geller), service (Joseph Knecht) and humility, finding harmony with the world (Siddhartha).In the article, the features of the individual style of Hermann Hesse are considered, the main features of his style of writing, such as autobiographical, psychoanalysis, intellectuality, attention to philosophical questions, aspiration
to unite the eastern and western philosophical positions are determined.
