Abstract

The English language, which is based on the system of articles, constructs the specific and generic meanings of common nouns in utterances depending on semantic, syntactic, grammatical, pragmatic and logic factors. They are as follows: situation and context, the category of the plural and the singular, the knowledge that interlocutors have gained, the function of nouns (individualizing, generic, restricting, nominating, aspective), the referential and non-referential use of noun phrases, the type of reference (introductory, identifying, generalizing, indefinite),the type of the noun reference (individual, generic), the actual division of sentence, the semantic and syntactic status of noun in the structure of utterance, the reference of noun phrases to the objects of reality, a specific or generalizing attribute before a noun phrase, the uniqueness of object, the deixis, the anaphora and the cataphora.
