The concept of humorous discourse and the impact of polysemy on creating of speech game in publicistic and conversational styles

This article examines the concept of humorous discourse and the impact of polysemy on creating of speech game in publicistic and conversational styles.The aim of the article is to identify, classify and compare methods of speech game formation by using linguistic polysemy and homonymy in order to identify their distinctive features in a humorous discourse. Humorous discourse is a complex communicative phenomenon or event where certain idea becomes a joke and the goal of interaction is to create a comic communicative situation. The colloquial and publicistic humorous discourses were chosen for investigation in this article because they are the most common in everyday communication. Analysis of linguistic material made it possible to identify the following devises of creating speech game using homonymy and polysemy phenomena as graphic; phonetic; morphological; lexical; syntactical. Our monitoring shows that the biggest amount of speech game devises in the humorous discourse is in lexicology. Amount of the lexical devises usage in creating speech game is mostly the same in both languages, but in English there is activation of lexical devices because of polysemy in publicistic humorous discourse. Colloquial humorous discourse also has a slight advantage in the Ukrainian language, and this figure is the same as in the Ukrainian publicistic humorous discourse. Quantity of ways for creating polysemy in Ukrainian and English is quite large in humorous context, but each of these languages has its own priority at using certain speech devises. So the percentage of morphological and syntactical devices is higher in the Ukrainian language. In the English language phonetic devises are more common. Further research of polysemy opens up broad prospects for specialists in linguistics, sociology, pedagogy, theory and practice of translation etc. The prospect of this theme is to investigate the main peculiarities of speech game translation based on polysemy.
