The article deals with structural-semantic and functionally-stylistic types of phraseological units with components naming people with respect to their occupation in Ukrainian, English and German; it gives quantitative characteristics of these groups. The topicality of the research is determined by such important issues in phraseology as functionally-stylistic typology of idioms and relations between their structural-semantic and functionally-stylistic character. In this context phraseological units containing lexemes of certain common semantic class, including people names, are of special interest. Analysis of idiomatic expressions has been carried out according to their nominative or predicative function and from the point of view of their stylistic colouring; at the same time etymology of some set phrases has been traced. Special attention is paid to studying the inner form of phraseological units with lexical components denoting people with respect to their occupation and the way these lexemes are used within Ukrainian, English and German phraseology. It is concluded that the words of this meaning are most actively used in figurative-expressive phrases, which contain the element of evaluation, express feelings, positive or negative perception of reality. Stylistically neutral idiomatic expressions mostly have nominative character, thus there are a few predicative ones in English.
