Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of raising motivation of students in learning a foreign language. A modern competent specialist must be proficient in a foreign language at a high professional level. However, even the most effective traditional and innovative technologies can’t ensure qualitative mastering a foreign language by students if they have no motivation. Academic motivation is determined by several factors, among which there are personal references of students, characteristics of the teacher and his attitude to teaching activities, the organization of the pedagogical process, as well as the specifics of the subject. The conducted theoretical analysis has allowed us to identify a number of pedagogical technologies, giving an opportunity to raise the students’ motivation in learning a foreign language. Formation of motivation of students to learn a foreign language is effectively implemented through the system of purposes, promoting independence, through enhancing creative thinking, through accustoming to research activities and the application of modern information and communication technologies. Motivation increases if students have the opportunity to work with authentic materials, if their individual aptitudes and abilities are taken into account, if there is understanding of the fact that a real professional success is ensured only with the help of one’s own efforts.
