Abstract

The article describes lexical translation transformations that are used during the translation of J. Orwell’s «Animal Farm» into Ukrainian. The novel is an allegory to the revolution of 1917 and subsequent events in the USSR during the formation and existence of the epoch of Stalinism before the World War II, so that’s why it becomes the subject of the study and five translations made by Ukrainian translators. From a linguistic point of view, the story is interesting because of the variety of agricultural terminology, systematization and translation of which by means of the Ukrainian language has a certain scientific and theoretical interest, and it is also an integral part of the practice of the fiction’s translation. The translator’s main task is to ensure that the text of the translation most accurately transmitted all the information contained in the original text, adhering to the relevant rules of the target language. At the beginning of our scientific research, we made a brief review of the five translations of the studied story, with a description of the peculiarities of the translation of each of the authors.
