Abstract

The article deals with the dramatic creativity of Yuriy Kosach in the light of metadramatic poetics. The main attention is paid to the author’s concept of a new theater and drama, which directly influenced the genre specifics of the writer’s own plays. The typical feature of Kosach’s dramaturgy is the appealing to complex problems, which concerned both historical choice of the nation as well as an individual (political leader, artist). The author used such art techniques that made realistic style impossible. The key features of the plays are multilayering of the dramatic space, allusion, acting, bizarre nature of the images, and erosion of the boundaries between the real and the imaginary world.
