Abstract

Abstract names are a phenomenon whose research relates to various branches of science. The classical opposition between a concrete and an abstract induces an analysis of this phenomenon from a philosophical or, rather, an ontological point of view, since an object or a thing is always concrete, and the elements that denote them are already the result of abstract activity. In the article the contrast of the concrete / abstract in the language is studied, the values are considered and classified not by purely external features of objects, but by what signs are reflected in the meaning. There have been often confused categories such as abstract / concrete nouns and their usage, or nominal abstract / concrete syntagmas. The categories differentiation of animate / inanimate creature according to the referents, and not the nouns themselves, is also ambiguous. In this case, when it comes to abstract or concrete nouns, then not only abstract or concrete nouns, but their referents are taken into account. Two types of hypotheses are considered, which, in turn, are based on the criteria of two types: logical, when it comes to the concept of dependence and prediction, and ontological. The possibility of considering this dichotomy through the prism of the opposition material / intangible, the meaning is available / inaccessible is reviewed.
