Abstract

The theoretical basis for teaching listening as a type of speech activity is disclosed through the main theoretical provisions of teaching students of professionally-oriented listening on the basis of improving the audio mechanisms on the material of the English language. The emphasis is placed on the psychological basis of listening, namely, internal processes of perception, recognition of language images, understanding of their meanings, comprehension of information, combination of information and their generalization, keeping information in memory, compiling reasoning.
The article shows the theoretical importance of comprehensive development and improvement of listening mechanisms; the feasibility of students’ training on the basis of improvement of auditory mechanisms system; illuminated by the education system of professionally-oriented listening of students; scientific-grounded methods of teaching listening of professional texts on the basis of improving the mechanisms for listening.
