Abstract

The techniques of expressiveness that actualize implicit textual information are examined in the article through the definition of the type of the lexical structure of the text and the nature of its associative-semantic deployment. Specificity of idiostyle is studied on the material of B. Brecht’s play-parable “Man Equals Man”. Its aesthetic nature reveals the essence of the new artistic orientation: a shift in emphasis, greater attention not to the inner world of man, but his dependence on the mechanisms of social oppression. There are no positive or negative characters in such a play ‒ spectators decide for themselves. Brecht’s main idea is to make spectators reflect upon actions happening on the stage. A number of techniques had been applied in the play that later became part of epic drama arsenal. Actors sometimes played the role of commentators; songs generalized the stage reality at a higher level; the story of events was immediately played out in roles, being turned into a kind of dramatic illustration of the epic narrative. The composition of the epic play had also been formed, comprising separate, independent episodes – “pieces of the puzzle”. Separation of individual elements is neither hidden nor smoothed out, yet the play is characterized by its striking integrity and inner unity, which arise from this deliberate disengagement.
