Abstract

In the study it is proved that the analysed works of arts are marked by a complex system of the chronotopic links the dominant of which is the chronotopе of the war. The peculiarity of the narrative structure of the works lies in the introspective inclusions which help overcome time distance, and hence show the cause of the tragic events represented in the texts. The chronotope of the war provides the prose works with the plot-compositional integrity uniting disparate motives and images into a single focus. In the whirlwind of bloody events, the time freezes or even completely disappears indicating the total impairment of the man as a measure of all things. Thus, in the chronotope of the war the specification of time duration loses its significance. In the chronotope of the war it is accumulated the characters’ previous experience which is outlined as the way to death. The existential aspect of the chronotopic discourse of the works is provided by the representation of the personages’ realization of the absurd reality. Being in the face of death both men ask themselves questions about the sense of human existance. Therefore the common characteristics of the chronotope of the war are timelessness, absurdity, doom, etc. which provide the analysed works with existential concepts.
