Abstract

The article deals with the revealing of the writers’ perception and interpretation of the imaginary time by means of the reconstruction of the content and structural peculiarities of the substantial layer of the literary concept of imaginary time in the English fantasy.
The reconstruction is held by means of the complex analysis that presupposes the investigation of linguistic and cognitive properties of the imaginary time in the English fantasy represented by the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, U.K. Le Guin and J.K. Rowling.
The structure of the substantial layer of the literary concept of imaginary time is being reconstructed as the mental formation reflecting the writers’ perception of various aspects of the imaginary time. It has been proved that the substantial layer of the literary concept of imaginary time is a frame representing the imaginary time as the certain continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible sequence from the past through the present to the future, can be measured and is peculiar owing to unreal characreristics and unusual perception.
