THE ROLE OF LINGUISTIC ECONOMY IN WORD FORMATION OF MODERN GREEK

The article is devoted to the study of problems, causes and principles of linguistic economy, its influence on the processes of word formation of Modern Greek, evaluation and formulation of the statement regarding the influence of using the means of economy of linguistic efforts on the system of Modern Greek based on the material of linguistic works of the leading Greek authors. The relevance of the problem is due to the general tendency of modern linguistic studies to analyze the current state of phonetic, grammatical, lexical and syntactic subsystems of the language in the entirety of all its components. Disclosure of the essence and identification of patterns and contradictory issues of rapid development of the language in general, Modern Greek in particular is determined by the need to systematize and summarize the basic principles of economy of linguistic efforts that affect the word formation of the Greek language. The use of linguistic economy is regarded at all levels of the Modern Greek language is confirmed, which demonstrates a general tendency towards the universalization and simplification of the Greek language system. Most frequently, linguistic economy manifest itself in the word-formation of the lexical composition of the Modern Greek language by the use of abbreviations, truncated forms and fusion, which determines the further prospects for the study of the Greek language system precisely in the lexical aspect.
