FUNCTIONAL FEATURES OF MILITARY DISCOURCE

Abstract

The article considers the essence of military discourse and concept of military translation phenomenon and reveals functional features of military discourse and military translation. Military discourse is considered as a military cognitive-communicative system, which represents a system of concepts interaction in the military sphere with the aim of ensuring rational communication. The peculiarities of the military journalistic texts are as follows: clarity, their brevity and specificity of wording. Clarity of presentation and accuracy should be noticed too. The logical sequence of presentation should facilitate the rapid perception of information, which is not burdened by other paraphrasing. Adequacy of military-related texts translation depends on translation of terms, military-technical terms, vocabulary and clichés of the military sphere. Prerequisite for an adequate translation is perfect command of a foreign language, knowledge of realities of the Ukrainian army, its organization, weapons and combat equipment, methods of armed struggle, etc. Study of German military-political vocabulary is important even for purely applied reasons. In this way, it is possible to identify certain specific signs of the military-political reality in the country and specificity of its reflection in language and speech.
