UKRAINIAN TERMINOLOGY TO DENOTE MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR

Abstract

In the years of hard trials for all Ukrainian people and in connection with the active introduction of the Ukrainian language at enterprises and institutions as the main sign of Ukrainian statehood, the professional terminology is being noticeably supplemented with new scientific and technical vocabulary. Given the above, it is extremely important to describe the terminosystem of road-building, one of the important segments of entrepreneurial activity in the country, which will contribute to the development of linguistic recommendations for the normalization of road-building terminology in the modern period.
The presented article deals with studying one of the thematic groups of road-building terminology, namely, the term group “Mechanization means for road construction and repair”. In particular, its classification is proposed, ways and means of terminological derivation, types of term-forming, and their productivity are outlined. Based on the principles of logical and conceptual classification, the studied term group was split into subgroups, which were broken down into thematic microgroups. The latter, in turn, were divided into microterm groups. All the above-mentioned confirms the structured nature of the road-building term system. The article lists productive word-formants – derived by suffixation and prefixation with the help of prefixoids – as well as compound terms, juxtaposition terms, abbreviated terms, and quite common two-component (binary) and multicomponent (comprising three or more components) word combinations.
