Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of markers of the category of intertextuality in the legislative discourse. The texts of laws and legislative acts published over the past 5 years on the official web portals of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Union were analysed. Ukraine’s integration into the European Union has led to increased attention to the quality of lawmaking processes in our country. The priority task of Ukrainian lawmakers is to bring national legislation in line with European standards. Therefore, it is important to study and compare the texts of EU and Ukrainian legislation in terms of their intertextual relations. Intertextuality is defined as the form-forming and meaning-forming interaction of various types of discourses, verbal and non-verbal texts. The category of intertextuality plays an important role both in the process of creating legislative texts and in the process of their interpretation (translation). It is noted that intertextuality encompasses information about the background knowledge of users of texts, along with relevant textual conventions such as rhetoric and style. As a result of the study, we conclude that the category of intertextuality is a means of ensuring the integrity of legislative discourse at the global level. Intertextuality as a global category ensures the connection between texts in the field of international law-making communication. The markers of the category of intertextuality in legislative texts are References: to precedent texts in the field of legislation, as well as lexical and semantic units that are correlated in the legislative acts of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Union. The research is aimed at finding ways to implement the category of intertextuality at the textual level and at the level of legislative discourse in international communication.
