«TWO COLOURS» BY DMYTRO PAVLYCHKO IN THE ASPECT OF THE TEACHING UKRAINIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article deals the methodology of studying the song “Two Colours” by Dmytro Pavlychko in Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (UFL) classes (level B1).
The relevance of the study is due to the necessity and importance of using Ukrainian song texts in the language practice of foreign students, and the absence of a separate applied study on the song «Two Colours» in linguodidactic discourse.
Based on the analysis of works about the peculiarities of forming linguistic and country-specific competence of foreigners in the process of teaching UFL, it is found that Ukrainian songs have great socio-cultural potential. Using them as a learning resource in classes with foreign students increases students’ interest in the topic of the lesson and promotes motivation to master the language.
It offers the methodological model of learning the song “Two Colours”. The model is based on the text-centric approach. It includes five texts. The main one is the text of the song, which is intended for listening. Several variants of References: to audio files of the song performed by singers of different generations are presented. The audio material is complemented by four additional (small) texts recommended for reading. They will help to better understand the meaning of the song and learn about the features of its creation and popularity. These texts also introduce the foreign language audience to the characters of the song’s authors – poet Dmytro Pavlychko and composer Oleksandr Bilash. The texts are supplemented with appropriate pre-text and post-text tasks.
It is concluded that the study of the proposed texts will help to deepen the background knowledge of foreign students about the culture of the country whose language they are studying. The implementation of the developed tasks for these texts will contribute to the development of language and communication competences.
