Abstract

In the article, the author considers the peculiarities of the formation of professional foreign language competence. The methods of teaching English for students of higher education in non-philological specialties are analyzed. This issue is relevant nowadays, as Ukraine is actively entering the world educational space. This makes new demands on the educational process. Proficiency in foreign languages is becoming a requirement for specialists of various directions. Methodologists, teachers and linguists develop effective methods of learning foreign languages for specific purposes. 
The educational discipline “Foreign Language for Specific Purposes” has its own specifics of teaching. Since its priority task is the training of specialists with a high professional level, able to work in a foreign language environment.
The purpose of the work is to analyze the use of the problem-research method in English classes.
Within the framework of the study, the concepts of “professional foreign language communicative competence”, “foreign language for specific purposes”, “method”, “task”, “problem-research method”, “problematic situation” are considered.
The problem-research method, as an interactive approach to learning, is aimed at activating the cognitive activity of students through posing problematic situations and independent searching for ways to solve them. Attention is focused on the theoretical foundations of the method and practical aspects of its implementation in the conditions of the modern educational process. The use of this method contributes to the development of critical thinking and the ability to learn independently.
The development of students’ foreign language communicative competence is a priority direction of the educational process at non-language faculties. Knowledge and mastery of the peculiarities of foreign language professional and business communication promotes understanding between specialists and ensures effective communication in the professional environment.
