ANGLICISATION AS AN INFERIORITY COMPLEX: SOCIOLINGUISTIC CONTEXT

The article reveals the latest regressive processes of Anglicisation in the sociolinguistic context. The processes of Anglicisation in the education system through the adoption of methodological recommendations and legislative initiatives of the current government aimed at limiting the official status of the Ukrainian language are analyzed.
A number of main positions of Anglicisation are highlighted, indicating the limitation of the official status of the Ukrainian language: the adoption of the Conceptual foundations of state policy on the development of the English language in the field of higher education; expansion of the English language through licensing and accreditation of higher educational institutions; the English language as a pass to the career growth of scientists in resistance to the Ukrainian language; restriction of the freedom of academic publishing by the Scopus and Web of Science databases as global monopolists on the Elsevier academic publishing market; English language discrimination against children of preschool and primary school age; limitation of Ukrainians in social status due to lack of knowledge of English and lack of support for the Ukrainian language in the higher education system, etc.
Anglicisation is interpreted as a threat to Ukrainian statehood precisely at the time of the greatest opportunities for the development of the Ukrainian language, which has just come out from under the Moscow press at the highest cost of losing lives in the war with the Moscow enemy and is a symbol of national identification. The imbalance between the state Ukrainian language and the dominance of both the Moscow (Russian) and English languages raises reasonable concerns about the independence of our Ukrainian perspective and Ukraine’s place on the global political chessboard. During the war, a change in language status is not only dangerous, but also indicates the anti-Ukrainian nature of the decisions of the current government.
