DETERMINED LEXIS AS A KEY FEATURE OF THE INTELLECTUALIZATION OF ULAS SAMCHUK'S AUTHORIAL STYLE

Abstract

This article is dedicated to analyzing determined lexis as a significant feature of the intellectualization of Ulas Samchuk's authorial style. Factual material was selected using the General Regionally Annotated Corpus of the Ukrainian Language (GRAC), where a subcorpus "Samchuk Ulas" was created. From this subcorpus, 573 citations were extracted, containing terms such as atom, electron, energy, embryo, infection, cosmos, pulse, rhythm, and stratosphere. The study confirms that the writer frequently incorporates scientific terms into his literary texts, reflecting the characteristics of technological progress. The most frequently occurring terms in the analyzed sample are atom, energy, pulse, and stratosphere.
A semantic-stylistic analysis of the selected citations was conducted, allowing for the classification of research material according to different levels of determination: functional, lexico-semantic, and semantic-stylistic. Functional determinations denote scientific concepts relevant to the period, contributing to the intellectualization of the language, fulfilling certain artistic functions, and producing a stylistic effect intended by the author. Lexico-semantic determinations illustrate the penetration of terms into a new thematic field, leading to an expansion of the determined lexeme's semantics. The research materials indicate that understanding the terminological meaning in the context of lexico-semantic determination enhances the clarity of the message and enables readers to grasp the depth of the author's ideas more precisely. As employed in Ulas Samchuk's literary texts, semantic-stylistic determinations undergo significant lexical transformations, appear in unusual word combinations, acquire new stylistic nuances, and create distinctive imagery.
Ulas Samchuk's authorial style is characterized by specific features, such as the accumulation of terms from different terminological systems within a single phrase as artistic devices and the repetition of the same word combinations in various contexts, such as the atomic era, the age of the atom, the pulse of life, to develop immunity, among others. The determinations identified in the analyzed material seamlessly integrate into the literary context, reflecting the intellectual level of the era and becoming an essential component of Ulas Samchuk's authorial style.
