FEATURES OF THE LEXICAL-SEMANTIC REPRESENTATION OF THE CONCEPT OF HOLODOMOR IN THE IDIOSTYLE OF ULAS SAMCHUK

Abstract

The article analyzes the concept of HOLODOMOR in the work of Ulas Samchuk, a writer who truthfully depicted the pictures of a terrible tragedy, because he had no illusions about the Soviet government. The peculiarities of the lexical-semantic representation of the studied concept in the artist's idiostyle are determined, which consist in reflecting the peculiarities of the author's worldview and reflecting reality even without use of the eponymous lexeme «holodomor» by writer and implementing the content in emphasized lexical-semantic groups (horror and suffering, illness and pain, politics and genocide).
The main lexeme-verbalizer of the studied concept in the work of Ulas Samchuk is the lexeme «hunger». However, the representation of the concept by verbs (will starve, will famish, tortured, will undernourish), nouns (atrocities, executioners, infection, cruelty); adjectives (artificial, terrible, cruel, needy, disenfranchised), metaphors and periphrases reveal the semantic potential and convey information about the content of the HOLODOMOR concept as an artificially created mass famine to destroy Ukrainians, genocide of the Ukrainian nation, state terror by means of hunger, but not the absence or shortage of food due to natural disasters.
The relevance of the study lies in the fact that understanding the content of the concept HOLODOMOR contributes to a better understanding of past and modern conflicts, as well as their consequences for humanity. The truthfulness of Ulas Samchuk's reflection of the tragedy of the Ukrainian people, the analysis of the lexical-semantic representation of the studied concept in the writer's work make it possible to highlight various aspects of the Holodomor, including political issues, and contribute to the awareness of the reasons for Russia's war against Ukraine at the present stage and the need for Ukrainians to win freedom, independence and preserve the Ukrainian nation, which the terrorist country has been trying to destroy forever.
